First Light on the Canal

Where Venice exists only for those who wake early.

Venice does not reveal itself to everyone.

It waits for those who arrive early.

Before the first voices cross the bridges and before the city resumes its performance, the lagoon remains still, holding the last moments of the night.

Gondolas rest silently, tied to wooden poles worn smooth by time. They move gently with the water, not going anywhere, simply existing within the rhythm of the morning.

The light arrives slowly.

It touches the domes in the distance, slides across the surface of the canal, and settles on the empty docks.

Nothing asks for your attention.

Nothing needs to.

This is Venice without its mask.

Not the destination, but the moment before it becomes one.

You are not here to visit.

You are here to witness.
